GROUP LESSONS - Stages 1-7

Our group lessons run for children from aged 3 years until they reach the end of our Learn to Swim programme. 

Ducklings - Enables child to feel comfortable in the water.

Stage 1 - Develop basic safety awareness (the class scenario), basic movement and water confidence skills.  Swimmers may use aids eg floats

Stage 2 - Develop safe entry into the water including jumping in, basic floating, orientation, travel and rotation unaided to regain upright positions.

Stage 3 - Develop safe entries including submersion, travel up to 10m on the front and back, progress rotation skills and water safety knowledge.

Stage 4 - Develop the understanding of buoyancy through a range of skills, refining kicking technique for all strokes and swimming 20m to a given standard as directed by Swim England.

Stage 5 - Develop sculling and treading water skills, and complete rotation, also performing all strokes to a given standard as directed by Swim England over 25m and 50m.

Stage 6 - Develop effective swimming skills including coordinated breathing; developing the water safety aspects and understanding of preparation for exercise.

Stage 7 - 40min class preparing swimmers for Academy.

Once swimmers have completed Stage 6/7, we offer them a trial with our academy squad.  Swimmers gain basic competitive skills in the academy, which give them the opportunity to go into competitive swimming if they wish.
